"Für seinen außergewöhnlichen Beitrag zur Entwicklung des Modellflugs, unter anderem für die Entwicklung von Flugprofilen und Flugmodellen für den Einsatz in Wettbewerben aller Klassen (FAI)" wurde Dr. Helmut Quabeck von der Fédération Aéronautique International (FAI) ausgezeichnet.
Auf der DAeC Hauptversammlung am 6. Dezember 2003 in Bremen erhielt Dr. Helmut Quabeck aus den Händen von DAeC Präsident Gerhard Allerdissen das Diplom "Oleg Antonov", das jährlich nur an einen Modellflieger oder ein FAI-Mitglied mit aussergewöhnlichen Verdiensten für die technische Entwicklung des Modellflugs verliehen wird.
Helmut Quabeck, neben seinen Profilentwicklungen, Modellkonstruktionen und Veröffentlichungen auch international bekannter und erfolgreicher Pilot in den Klassen F3B und F3J, wird als neunter Diplom-Inhaber geführt.

For years, Dr. Helmut Quabeck has been a well-known and respected expert in developing wing profiles for model airplanes. His great national and international reputation is not limited to the aeromodelling community. He also developed radio-controlled gliders intended for classes F3B and F3J. Some of his most important achievements are: His collection of airfoils for model airplanes and especially gliders (known under the name HQ-Profiles) developed by himself. These airfoils are now used widely for the construction of new model airplanes. His Masterpiece model for the F3B class, which was further developed into several different versions. This model is still used successfully in various championships. His F3J Soarmaster model, which proved that even a mass production model with a conventional method of building can be well suited to compete in championships. As the model was produced in high numbers it enabled especially a lot of young people to start flying in competitions. It therefore contributed a lot to the popularity of the F3J class. His book Design, Performance And Dynamics Of Glider Models covers the mechanical and aerodynamic basics of glider models as well as their implementation in practice. By now it is the best-known theoretical work about model airplanes worldwide. With his achievements, Dr. Helmut Quabeck has contributed enormously to technical innovation in aeromodelling.
