 Hello everyone!

I'm sorry I can't speak German. Hopefully English will be OK too.

I would like to present you Sniper, electric-powered glider. The project took me 2 months of drawing and now it's one year from the time I started the first drawing.

Basic technical data;
Wingspan: 208cm
Fuselage length: 116cm
Weight RTF: 650g (+/- 30g)
airfoil: HN-1033
only 2 servos in standard version, rudder and elevator.

First drawing;
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/9062/celicadse8.jpg

All parts are CNC pre-cutted.
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/4710/pahljaatz0.jpg

Firstly, we need to prepare plan on straight, solid soft-wood desk.
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/5518/sprintamomd2.jpg

After that we need to cover the plan with thin PVC film, to prevent from gluing wooden parts on the plan.
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/6469/natodamoezfolijorj1.jpg

When the plan is set, we need to look where are specific parts in pre-cutted sheet, and cut them out.
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/3768/treskicesmerwn0.jpg

for example;
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5265/rezanjeprekinitevih9.jpg

We cut only the pieces we need, not all pieces, because we can mix everything up.
http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/7725/izrezanidelibw8.jpg

As you can see, there is some wood from "bridges" left, which we need to sand.
before sanding
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/4961/prekinitevwu0.jpg

after sanding
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/1530/brezprekinitvezm9.jpg

This job is actually very easy and fast. It's not a big deal at all.

Once we have all parts which we need for glueing, we put one part and fix it with needle, than we stick another part to it and fix that part aswell.
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/834/namaemoinnamestimohh6.jpg

For example rudder
http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/7767/rotateeb7.jpg

as we can see, it's just like the one in AutoCAD :) :) :)
http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/9956/smercadmq9.jpg

Everything fits just perfect. Accuracy of cutting is 0.01mm.
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/7184/visinaspojue3.jpg

And for example wingtip;

As next picture shows, the construction of wing is very simple, but very strong and very light. For main spar it's used 2X 3X3 spruce, "locked" with 1.5mm balsa sheets and than D-box sheeted with 1.5mm balsa. Pictures will show what I'm talking about...
http://img115.imageshack.us/img115/6761/drugauskasv3.jpg

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/6429/drugauskastojinewg2.jpg

Other wing segments are also made on the very same way....
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/5238/ukagl5.jpg

when glueing lower 3x3 spruce, you need to underlay with 1.5mm balsa, to imitate lower sheeting, which will be glued later.
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/2170/ukalimanjeho4.jpg

... so far so good...
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/2972/ukadelots5.jpg

JKSniper

When are the main spars glued, we can put wing panel away from desk... as picture shows;
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/774/uskanapolzu6.jpg

... than we need to close the chamber with 1.5mm balsa sheets... like shown here;
http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/9766/uskalimanjestojinbk6.jpg

there are front and back sheets, front is smaller, because there is also upper and lower sheeting (D-box).
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/1487/uskastojinezadajbg5.jpg

And we finally cover it up with sheeting... In this phase the wing gets extremely stronger than before.
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/3110/2uskapoplankanaci9.jpg

And some pictures of building central wing panel...:) :)
http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/2734/centroplansl5.jpg

... I know I'm too fast, so I'll slow a bit down... If somebody have anything to ask, you can freely ask here! If you wondering where you can get this kit, just write "PN".

He he he ... I making quick drawings of planes on backpage of german workbook, while (Not)listening in school. :D :D :D :D ;)

of course, my intention is to present my model, with all photos of building, than flying and available upgrades! :)

... so... we are continuing now ;)

Just for fun, one picture of tail...
As you can see, tail fits together perfectly even not-glued :)
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/6991/reptm0.jpg

Now back to central wing panel... we need to make good wing joiners, that wing can hold loops etc.

It's not in the spar, but just next to it...
http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/2937/bajonet1tu6.jpg

that's why we need to "dress it up" and glue it really well to the main wing spar... that everything joins together well...
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/7067/bajonet3ri3.jpg

This time it's better to use epoxy than everything else...
http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/5766/bajonet2xg9.jpg

and lock it down...
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5250/bajonet4ub5.jpg

when finished it looks like this... now it will be covered with 1.5mm balsa sheeting...
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1148/bajonet5sb8.jpg

JKSniper
27.10.2008, 22:07
Now we glue under the sheeting some some cross 3X3mm spruce supports, because sheeting is in direction to reinforce and join wing joins...
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/5813/bajonetplankyi8.jpg

from this view we can be se the hole for plastic bolt...
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/1407/bajonetplank2ft6.jpg

and finally some more sheeting for nicer look :p
http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/9095/bajonetplankokrogel1pf4.jpg

everything fine sanded
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/6752/bajonetplankokrogel2mh5.jpg

Now one important part!!!

We need to glue wing pieces with joiners in perfectly right position, to ensure same angle on both sides.

This is how it was planned...
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/1356/1konna75wbrezeleronovmowc9.jpg

This is the easiest way...
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/4872/kotikrilozakljuekzs7.jpg

from top...
http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/421/kotikrilozakljuek2nn8.jpg

and now... keep our fingers crossed and wish us luck... it's symmetrical!!!
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4060/kotkrilouka2wingletza0.jpg

JKSniper
27.10.2008, 22:15
this is how the join is made... I glued it with epoxy...
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/8990/kotivmesnikjj7.jpg

and second join on the very same way....
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/4060/kotikrilouska2uska1xn7.jpg

this is so called "the mess"
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/5255/kotikrilovsidelimg0.jpg

but it's still symmetrical!
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/8366/primerjavata6.jpg

and for the third and last time...
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/2232/koticelokrilobn4.jpg

looks cool!
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/9659/koticelokrilo2tn6.jpg

yeah baby, nice fit! ;)
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/5055/krilo3um0.jpg

JKSniper
27.10.2008, 22:24
My father is pretty satisfied I guess ;) ;)
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/8822/krilo2ke8.jpg

wing is really nice, light and very strong!
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/9234/krilotb9.jpg

Okay, the wing is done for now... covering in Oralight film will be later!

... now... where must I put this strange rib...
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/2441/truprebraov7.jpg

Oh yeees! ... first in fuselage :) and almost no place for glue! ;)
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/6498/truprebrapaehj0.jpg

First I need to test if it fits...
http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/6294/truptestnolp9.jpg

of course it does fit!
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/6673/truptestno2sg0.jpg

JKSniper
27.10.2008, 22:33
and place for servos...
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/9925/truptestno3jz4.jpg

now for real...
http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5295/truppaeskup1fn1.jpg

spruces really reinforce the fuselage... where it's most common to break, there are 8 of them! (behind the wing)
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/3066/truppaeskup2xd4.jpg

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5708/truppaeskup3ji2.jpg

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/6167/truppaeskup4dq4.jpg

it fits really tight... makes a lot of associations... :D
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1078/truppaeskup5ww6.jpg

Oukay... just like planned, servos will be like this...
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/2636/truppaeskup6dopolfa3.jpg

in real... you MUST NOT glue where it's shown... it must be free...
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/8149/truppaeskup6ob8.jpg

it's very easy...
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/4647/trupplankanje1gv4.jpg

JKSniper
27.10.2008, 22:38
and from another side...
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/663/trupplankanje3sr6.jpg
also there is no worries... fuselage will be straight! ;)

Oh yeeees, the smalles rib!
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/5136/najmanjsarebrafq3.jpg

now we'll try tail... it looks nice, doesn't it?
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4901/trup1to6.jpg

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/526/trup2gq7.jpg

I told you it will be straight ;)
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/541/trup3li9.jpg

this is how it's planned...
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9081/rep3uy7.jpg

this is how it's in real... similar :)

Oh yes... we aren't done yet!

Used drive set is:

AXI 2212/34
JETI 18 ECO
Kokam 3s 910HD
11/8 Aeronaut CAM CARBON folding prop

This drive set is used because it's perfect for 75W limitation in Slovenian F5J 75W electro-powered glider competition. (the plane is actually designed for competitions).

mAXImal power ;)
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/6889/axiqz3.jpg

precutted "firewall" fits perfectly on it...
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/5964/nosilecmotorja1fa4.jpg

fitting perfectly inside!
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/2244/nosilecmotorja2cz7.jpg

Now we need to sand it!
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/341/nosilc4dd3.jpg

There will be a lot of balsa dust...
http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7167/brusimiskofs7.jpg

and very good result at the end!

The firs rib is a bit sanded for better fit of motor. For 20-40sec of motor time you don't need any cooling!
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/9573/nosilc5av6.jpg

and we solder the drive set!
http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/5180/lotanjeut8.jpg

http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/7673/pogondg8.jpg

as planned!

look's like the owner is happy  :) :)
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/9518/model1mt3.jpg

Hello,
i like the plane and its wonderfully build, but really.... "sniper" is not a name for an RC- plane.
sorry just my personal opinion!

Hi Uwe,

in these Season there are 2 F3B-Models with equal names "Shooter" and "Target" - so "Sniper" sounds good - maybe the Plane is a bit to slow for the name ;)

Sniper = You feel the Bullet and seconds later you hear the shoot :p

Hey,
so you did not hear the Bang!
that´is what i intended to say.:D
ok.. there are more stupid names
for planes, like garlic or sombrero:D :D
Anyway, great Work!!!

FC Maribor, yea right ;) :p :p

Well yeah... there are 2 reasons for this name. First is that this is my first project so I wanted to give name something similar to my nick, as you can see, second reason why is that name suitable for this specific plane is that it's designed to compete in F5J 75W. This is the category, where motor time + gliding time must not exceed 10min, and you need to land on the spot. (Similar to F3J, but not old fashion tow). And you need to land accurately on spot like sniper need to hit accurately the target... same thing isn't it? :D

Well, enough of the name...

We better go in air! :)

Okay, the kit includes all pre-cutted balsa and plywood parts except for sheeting which is doubled (so you copy one which is already cut).

This is one example of cutting with 1.3mm "Fräser" (one german word :D )

und mit 0.4mm Fräser....

And all together...

Of course you are waiting for flight report; Model needed 2 klicks of trim for elevator (down). Model flies as planned or even better than that. It's good in wind compared to Fly-Q, Sensor etc. (planes with airfoil MH32). Because of the longer nose, the model don't need any additional weight in the nose to catch CG. There is plenty of room for different components.

Plane is very manoeuvrable in air and for landings, there is no problem to land it in windy or calm weather (this is expected for competitions), and it's gliding is just perfect! You can use this plane for beginning as well, but you need to build it up fairly good, because only well build model can fly well!

Oh yes... if someone thinks wood is not strong... I can guaranteed beat someone's ass with this fuselage without breaking it :D :D :D :D ha ha. Also, wings can hold tight loops and are almost indestructible in air. Sheeting makes them really strong! ;)

For last thing... I'm planning the wing with ailerons as well, for those who just don't want to fly only with rudder. But I must say... in competition the simple is better!

Oh yes... this year my father (and this race was only his third) got second place with it on Slovenian F5J championship... which is amazingly good result!!!
