Sniper

 Hello everyone!

I'm sorry I can't speak German. Hopefully English will be OK too.

I would like to present you Sniper, electric-powered glider. The project took me 2 months of drawing and now it's one year from the time I started the first drawing.

Basic technical data;
Wingspan: 208cm
Fuselage length: 116cm
Weight RTF: 650g (+/- 30g)
airfoil: HN-1033
only 2 servos in standard version, rudder and elevator.

First drawing;

All parts are CNC pre-cutted.

yessssub6.jpg

Firstly, we need to prepare plan on straight, solid soft-wood desk.
sprintamomd2.jpg

After that we need to cover the plan with thin PVC film, to prevent from gluing wooden parts on the plan.
natodamoezfolijorj1.jpg

When the plan is set, we need to look where are specific parts in pre-cutted sheet, and cut them out.
treskicesmerwn0.jpg

for example;
rezanjeprekinitevih9.jpg

We cut only the pieces we need, not all pieces, because we can mix everything up.
izrezanidelibw8.jpg

As you can see, there is some wood from "bridges" left, which we need to sand.
before sanding
prekinitevwu0.jpg

after sanding
brezprekinitvezm9.jpg

This job is actually very easy and fast. It's not a big deal at all.

Once we have all parts which we need for glueing, we put one part and fix it with needle, than we stick another part to it and fix that part aswell.
namaemoinnamestimohh6.jpg

For example rudder
rotateeb7.jpg

as we can see, it's just like the one in AutoCAD :) :) :)
smercadmq9.jpg

Everything fits just perfect. Accuracy of cutting is 0.01mm.
visinaspojue3.jpg

And for example wingtip;
zakljuekij4.jpg

As next picture shows, the construction of wing is very simple, but very strong and very light. For main spar it's used 2X 3X3 spruce, "locked" with 1.5mm balsa sheets and than D-box sheeted with 1.5mm balsa. Pictures will show what I'm talking about...
drugauskasv3.jpg

drugauskastojinewg2.jpg

Other wing segments are also made on the very same way....
ukagl5.jpg

when glueing lower 3x3 spruce, you need to underlay with 1.5mm balsa, to imitate lower sheeting, which will be glued later.
ukalimanjeho4.jpg

... so far so good...
ukadelots5.jpg

When are the main spars glued, we can put wing panel away from desk... as picture shows;
uskanapolzu6.jpg

... than we need to close the chamber with 1.5mm balsa sheets... like shown here;
uskalimanjestojinbk6.jpg

there are front and back sheets, front is smaller, because there is also upper and lower sheeting (D-box).
uskastojinezadajbg5.jpg

And we finally cover it up with sheeting... In this phase the wing gets extremely stronger than before.
2uskapoplankanaci9.jpg

2uskapoplankana2vd2.jpg

And some pictures of building central wing panel...:) :)
centroplansl5.jpg

centroplan2mo2.jpg

  :D :D :D
plankanje3dl4.jpg

... I know I'm too fast, so I'll slow a bit down... If somebody have anything to ask, you can freely ask here! If you wondering where you can get this kit, just write "PN".

He he he ... I making quick drawings of planes on backpage of german workbook, while (Not)listening in school. :D :D :D :D ;)

of course, my intention is to present my model, with all photos of building, than flying and available upgrades! :)

... so... we are continuing now ;)

Just for fun, one picture of tail...
As you can see, tail fits together perfectly even not-glued :)
reptm0.jpg

Now back to central wing panel... we need to make good wing joiners, that wing can hold loops etc.

It's not in the spar, but just next to it...
bajonet1tu6.jpg

that's why we need to "dress it up" and glue it really well to the main wing spar... that everything joins together well...
bajonet3ri3.jpg

This time it's better to use epoxy than everything else...
bajonet2xg9.jpg

and lock it down...
bajonet4ub5.jpg

when finished it looks like this... now it will be covered with 1.5mm balsa sheeting...
bajonet5sb8.jpg

Now we glue under the sheeting some some cross 3X3mm spruce supports, because sheeting is in direction to reinforce and join wing joins...
bajonetplankyi8.jpg

from this view we can be se the hole for plastic bolt...
bajonetplank2ft6.jpg

and finally some more sheeting for nicer look :p
bajonetplankokrogel1pf4.jpg

everything fine sanded
bajonetplankokrogel2mh5.jpg

Now one important part!!!

We need to glue wing pieces with joiners in perfectly right position, to ensure same angle on both sides.

This is how it was planned...
1konna75wbrezeleronovmowc9.jpg

This is the easiest way...
kotikrilozakljuekzs7.jpg

from top...
kotikrilozakljuek2nn8.jpg

and now... keep our fingers crossed and wish us luck... it's symmetrical!!!
kotkrilouka2wingletza0.jpg

this is how the join is made... I glued it with epoxy...
kotivmesnikjj7.jpg

and second join on the very same way....
kotikrilouska2uska1xn7.jpg

this is so called "the mess"
kotikrilovsidelimg0.jpg

but it's still symmetrical!
primerjavata6.jpg

and for the third and last time...
koticelokrilobn4.jpg

looks cool!
koticelokrilo2tn6.jpg

yeah baby, nice fit! ;)
krilo3um0.jpg

My father is pretty satisfied I guess ;) ;)
krilo2ke8.jpg

wing is really nice, light and very strong!
krilotb9.jpg

Okay, the wing is done for now... covering in Oralight film will be later!

... now... where must I put this strange rib...
truprebraov7.jpg

Oh yeees! ... first in fuselage :) and almost no place for glue! ;)
truprebrapaehj0.jpg

First I need to test if it fits...
truptestnolp9.jpg

of course it does fit!
truptestno2sg0.jpg

and place for servos...
truptestno3jz4.jpg

now for real...
truppaeskup1fn1.jpg

spruces really reinforce the fuselage... where it's most common to break, there are 8 of them! (behind the wing)
truppaeskup2xd4.jpg

truppaeskup3ji2.jpg

truppaeskup4dq4.jpg

it fits really tight... makes a lot of associations... :D
truppaeskup5ww6.jpg

Oukay... just like planned, servos will be like this...
truppaeskup6dopolfa3.jpg

in real... you MUST NOT glue where it's shown... it must be free...
truppaeskup6ob8.jpg

it's very easy...
trupplankanje1gv4.jpg

and from another side...
trupplankanje3sr6.jpg

also there is no worries... fuselage will be straight! ;)

Oh yeeees, the smalles rib!
najmanjsarebrafq3.jpg

now we'll try tail... it looks nice, doesn't it?
trup1to6.jpg

trup2gq7.jpg

I told you it will be straight ;)
trup3li9.jpg

this is how it's planned...
rep3uy7.jpg

this is how it's in real... similar :)
rep1tf9.jpg

rep2tx3.jpg

now we need to make lower and upper sheeting... this makes it reeeeaalllyy stroing!
zapiranjetj6.jpg

Oh yeees! The JK's light wooden baseball bats ;) ;) ;)
baseballyx5.jpg

that is how it should be done...
trupskoraj2ls8.jpg

trupskoraj3ta5.jpg

first time together....
skupaj1ae6.jpg

skupaj2vl3.jpg

skupaj3bs0.jpg

That it would be all for today! ... I'll go on tomorrow!

However, I'm sorry I don't explain each step more in details, everything is visible from plan and it's very easy! If there would be any problem this is the right place to ask questions!

good night ;)
Jure

Oh yes... we aren't done yet!

Used drive set is:

AXI 2212/34
JETI 18 ECO
Kokam 3s 910HD
11/8 Aeronaut CAM CARBON folding prop

This drive set is used because it's perfect for 75W limitation in Slovenian F5J 75W electro-powered glider competition. (the plane is actually designed for competitions).

mAXImal power ;)
axiqz3.jpg

precutted "firewall" fits perfectly on it...
nosilecmotorja1fa4.jpg

fitting perfectly inside!
nosilecmotorja2cz7.jpg

Now we need to sand it!
nosilc4dd3.jpg

There will be a lot of balsa dust...
brusimiskofs7.jpg

and very good result at the end!
nosilc3vp4.jpg

nosilcyp3.jpg

The firs rib is a bit sanded for better fit of motor. For 20-40sec of motor time you don't need any cooling!
nosilc5av6.jpg

and we solder the drive set!
lotanjeut8.jpg

pogondg8.jpg

as planned!
pogonvmodeluhi1.jpg

look's like the owner is happy  :) :)
model1mt3.jpg

So far pretty good weight, only 588g with all inside...
