How will they limit the average speed to 200kph with those engine and tuned exhaust rules. The whole F3R rule set looks like at least 240plus kph for a course average.
Oops I misread the rules. 200kph is a good number for average course speed based on time for a 428 on alcohol. 240 kph is a good number for average airplane speed on the course on alcohol. With the east half of the US going for 426 and the west not much interested in 426 perhaps out here in the west we should adopt FAI F3R as our quickie event.
Denis,
would you please explain me(us) the difference in your USA Q500 classes,
422; 424; 426; 428?
Does this mean different engines, race distances, fuels, etc?
What class do you fly?
Dietmar
422 is Q40 not a quickie class. The same as is flown in the Euro Cup. Only flown with Jett or Nelson Q40 engines because they are the only current competitive motors that meet the rules.
424,426 and 428 are all quickies with the same airplane dimension and weight rules with the exception that 424 does not allow composite (shell) wings or tail. All the quickies are the same as dimensions and weights as the Euro Cup Q500 with very minor differences because inches versus millimeters and ounces versus milligrams.
424 is our sport quickie class which uses the Thunder Tiger 40 PRO engine and APC 9/6 prop. There are a few districts that use the OS 46 and 10/6 apc props. races with these planes can be flown on the 2 mile or 2.5 mile course.
428 is our Q500 class and the engines approved for it are Nelson Q500 (SS, LS), Jett Q500 (all versions) and Profi Q500. Other engines could be approved but there are no others that could compete. races are on the 2.5 mile course
426 is a new class of Q500 that only allows the Super Sport Jett 40 engine. This reduces the speed of the planes to 15 to 20 mph below a 428. Races are flown on the 2 or 2.5 mile course.
