Hi All

Sorry about the English answer. I read and speak German but I don't write it.

For a few weeks I have been flying one in a Magic Extra 3D plane. I have been using the black tuned muffler that comes with it. I can say OUTSTANDING POWER, IDLE and TRANSITION. It preferes 5% nitro but will run on 15%. It is more difficult to adjust needles on 15%.

12/4 APC 13,500 rpm

9/6 APC 17,700 to 18000 rpm

The tuned muffler is a little "pipe y" (gets on the pipe just as the engine starts to 2 cycle as you lean out the high speed needle). Because of this I had to fly, tweak and fly and tweak 3 or 4 times to get the needles just right.

I am really happy with the overall performance and reliability of this motor.

I use fuel with 18% oil of which 6% is castor oil.

Gruss

HHmmm

Maybe I should think about trying to get one of those Mario Roos 40s and trying it in one of my quickies. See how it goes against the Nelsons at least at our practice field. Do they make a radial back plate for it? A couple of years ago I tried a hopped up Webra Q500 40 but it just did not have it when running with Nelsons.

Hello Djlyon,

m+r does not mean Mario Roos, he maybe would like it. m+r means michael +roland, means my son and me. Together we run a small business, our homepage is www.modellmotorentechnik.de. Almost all our life we played around with small engines, starting with TD's, 1.8cc Webra Speedy's, 2,5cc of almost all brands, or better, the more powerfull ones used for Controll-line speed flying. Recently we adopted the 3,5cc and meanwhile we stepped up to 6,5cc. We build the most powerfull 3,5cc airplane engine from selected Rossi parts which is available commercially. You know, here in Germany we fly Q500 using 80/20 FAI Fuel, no Nitromethan. We still think, we don't have the power compared to a Nelson, but the engines do very well in the air. We honestly think, the Nelson is still the best Q500 engine money can buy. Next, the Jett, and then, after some gap, maybe there is something like a m+r .40. But the m+r 40 sells for 150 €uros, compared to this, you get an excellent ratio for the buck. There are not to much brand new Nelsons around here, almost all have some years of racing on the clock. Mario will bring a new one to the German finals this weekend and he will try everything to beat us. If he could manage to finish his new airplane he might have a chance. We fly the legendary Oma's Schrankwand, its heavy but also very fast. Actually, nobody knows why. Some days ago I got clocked with 152 mp/h using the eagletree data logger. This is the fastest speed of a Q500 legal airplane we heard of in Germany.
Ok, we can talk next week,as I have to pack the car for the race.

Cheers

@ djlyon

I feel honoured.... :D Roos may sound like Rossi, and and m+r40 may suggest that i am involed in that engines, but as roland wrote in the previous posting, i am not. So Roland is the one to ask about the details.

Do you know a Cliff Witherspoon, also from California ? Maybe you know him from the races in your district ? I recently purchased one of his used Nelson's via ebay.com - beside the new know directly from Performance specialties, which will be tested this evening.

@ Roland

Hallo Mario, hallo Roland,

Roland, was heißt "rumfräsen"?

Muss jetzt an meinem TOPSPEED 6.6 basteln. Ich sage nur: böse, böse, böse!

Sorry
Yes after I made that post and read every thing again I realized that Mario probably was not responsible for the M+R40.

No I don't know Cliff Witherspoon although I think I have heard the name.

Good luck all at your race.

Hallo Dr. T.
