Valach VM60, backfiring

Hello,

Yesterday, I started to run in my new VM60.
The first start, and 20min run passed perfectly.
Then, I shut down the engine for cool down, and I wanted to start it again.
When I flipped the prop, ignition on, the engine backfired, again and again till it nearly
broke my finger😟. ( which is now swollen and blue)

I never had this experience before on my DA, DLE or 3W engines.
Anybody an idea what could be wrong?

Kind regards,
Eric

Hi Koen,

It's a new engine, so a new hall sensor to😎.
The first run was ok, so I don't see a reason to suspect the hall sensor at this stage.
I'll try later this week to start the engine with a stick.

Gerhard Reinsh advised me to start with some more fuel chocked first, so once
my finger is less painfull and unswollen, i'll try that.

Of course, if somebody still has another suggestion, shoot!

Kind Regards,

Eric

Some years ago I had 2 ( new ) broken Hall sensors on the Moki 250. With the first test runs everything was ok, after a few flights , they were broken.
So don't tell it's not possible and my fingers looked the same as yours
Of course it's only one possibility, but I didn't forget this one:D

Hi Eric,

I think your idle is set to lean. When fuel with lower octane and lean setting, a self-ignition is possible.
