Hi christoph,
Du hattest recht mit den blei platten, aber da steckt schon einiges know how dahinter nicht einfach auftapen.
Anbei die mail von Dave mit Gruss an Dich:
Hi Thomas,
Thank you! Good to hear from you. Looking forward to our slope trip this
June. I hope to see you there! Also, thanks for the photograph, nice shot of
Kiona
The rumor about the lead plates is true. On some of my other models like
the DS 2V and Brisk, I would to wrap sheet lead, about 2.0 oz ( 57 grams) on
the leading edge about 5-7 inches in from the tip. I kept it in place with
tape. This was done to both wings of course and would allow the model to
travel a little bit faster before experiancing flutter. I learned this from
J. W. when I saw him do this at Parker Mt. It allowed his plane to DS
about 20 mph faster before it fluttered again.
This attempt at mass balancing was also extremely helpful with the V-Tail on
my Ellipse 2V which use to flutter in the low 170's (mph). The idea is to
move the static balance point of the 2V forward of the stock balancing point
of around 55% of chord to somewhere close to 30%. Similar to the wings the 7
grams (or so) of lead was taped to the leading edge about 4-6 inces from
the tips. Make sense?
On the Wizard that I flew to 206.6 mph (332 kph) we had special mass
balancing tubes installed in the leading edge of the wing that we could
access from the root section. This allows some weight to be placed
internally to accomplish the same results as I mentioned before.
The tail on the Wizard also had some lead taped to the leading edge to help
move the balance point of the full flying V-Tail to the pivot point. Though
I still experianced flutter after reaching 206. After having 2 tails blow
off at high speed I now know that a full flying tail is poor choice for a DS
plane
It's possible that my friend Christoph Gruber is the one who has mentioned
this to others. I'm pretty sure I had told him about this when I met him at
the slope in Braunsberg, Austria. Or maybe in a subsuquent email to him.
I hope this makes sense. Please let me know if you need some clarification,
I'm happy to help.

See you soon my friend.
Good lift,
