Hallo Skipper,

es geht bald wieder los mit dem America'S Cup.

Der Louis Vuitton Cup - die Regatta mit der der Herausforderer ausgesegelt wird - startet am 1. Oktober mit der First Round Robin.

Eurosport berichtet am 1. bis 3. Oktober aus Auckland, jeweils 19.00 Uhr (ohne Gewähr).

Mir tut Mike leid. Warum BMW im April Illbruck nicht unterstütz hat um dann 3 Monate später bei einem amerikanischen Team groß einzusteigen, ist mir nicht klar.

Na Drücken wir dem Oracle-BMW-Team trotzdem die Daumen, dass sie wenigstens die ersten Runden überstehen.

Louis Vuitton Cup Round Robin One, Race One

ALINGHI (SUI-64) Beat Le Défi areva (FRA-69) – Delta 4:48

After an exciting and close start, Alinghi representing the Societe Nautique de Genève, took an early lead over the French boat Le Défi and slowly extended throughout the entire race to win by a handsome margin. After only one minute with both boats lined up together on starboard tack, it became obvious that Alinghi steered by double America’s Cup winning helm, Russell Coutts was faster and pressed that advantage to win by a handsome margin, without being really tested.

USA-76 Beat Luna Rossa (ITA-74) – Delta 00:42

A featured match of the day pitted the Prada Challenge against Oracle BMW Racing, but after a lively pre-start the match quickly faded to Oracle’s control. Rod Davis started Luna Rossa and Peter Holmberg USA-76. The pair split tacks off the line with Luna Rossa on port at the boat end and USA-76 on starboard at the pin end. USA-76 quickly tacked to port and a long drag race ensued up the beat. Francesco de Angelis took over the helm of Luna Rossa after the start, but USA-76, inside of the Italian yacht, seemed to be advantaged by a lifting breeze and within five minutes of the start had opened a slight lead over Luna Rossa. USA-76, with Holmberg helming his first race in the Louis Vuitton Cup, kept extending that lead up the 3.25-mile leg. USA-76 led by 15 seconds at the windward mark. Luna Rossa gained on all three downwind legs, but couldn’t match the American yacht upwind.

STARS & STRIPES (USA-66) Beat WIGHT LIGHTNING (gbr-70)– Delta 00:20

A close match throughout, Team Dennis Conner's Stars & Stripes claimed a well earned victory over the British boat, finishing a clear 20 seconds ahead. But life wasn't that simple for the Americans until the closing stages of the last leg. Entering the box from the port side, GBR Challenge managed to gain the advantage after the two boats turned into a conventional dial up and then fell away to starboard. A slow tack just before the start put GBR-70 at a disadvantage, leaving the Americans to head for the pin end at full speed. It was this small error that separated the two boats for virtually the entire race. Each team had its turn at pulling an advantage with Stars & Stripes recording a 17-second advantage at the second weather mark rounding and with the British reducing it to six seconds at the third weather mark rounding. But fighting hard on the final downwind leg, GBR Challenge had little choice but to split gybes. Nevertheless Stars & Stripes kept their cool, sailed their own race under pressure and managed to pull out their lead to 20 seconds by the finish.

ONEWORLD (USA-67) BEAT MASCALZONE LATINO (ITA-72) – Delta 05:43

The Seattle Yacht Club’s OneWorld Challenge (USA-67) reaped the dividend of a strong training programme and looked very powerful in beating the Italian Mascalzone Latino (ITA-72) team. Sailing head Peter Gilmour handed the helm to James Spithill and he showed his prowess on the start, boxing Italian helmsman Paolo Cian out from the pin end of the line, before crossing well ahead of the ‘Latin Rascals’. Early on the first weather leg it was apparent that OneWorld was the faster boat, as Spithill simply pointed higher and sailed faster than his Italian counterpart, eventually rounding the first windward mark with a 1:14 lead. That combination of speed and pointing ability proved hard to beat, and the Americans went on to win Race One with ease.

Day 2 Racing Postponed

All matches scheduled for today will be rescheduled for tomorrow, Thursday 3 October.

Winds today were well in excess of the 19-knot limit set to start racing in the Sailing Instructions and accordingly, the Louis Vuitton race committee chose to postpone racing.

"Everything we saw said no for today," said Peter Reggio, Principle Race Officer. "We were measuring average wind speeds of 22-knots and the breeze was forecast to build." Reggio added that while the sea wasn't too bad, the flood current against the wind was creating lumpy conditions out on the Hauraki Gulf.

Reggion commented, "We're not really surprised it happened this early. We knew it would happen. When you come here you expect this type of thing. It's early in the regatta. If we had pushed the limits, there was still a concern that the wind was going to rise later in the day."

About noon today, Cupviews spoke to John Sweeney, main trimmer on ORACLE BMW Racing, who was out on the course to race Mascalzone Latino. Probably reflecting the thoughts of the other challengers out on the water today, Sweeney said that conditions didn't seem too bad but that a decision probably would be made to cancel rather than risk early damage to the boats.

The forecast is for similar weather on Thursday with strong Westerlies between 19 and 24 knots.

Hallo Eric,

LeDefi scheint bisher nicht allzuviel Glück zu haben, und morgen gegen Luna Rossa. Die hatte bisher wohl auch nicht das gebracht, was man nach den Erfolgen vom letzten mal erwarten konnte.

Aber die Runde ist ja noch lang, hoffentlich bleibet der Wind so wie er ist.

und scon wieder verloren, aber momentan gibt´s ja eh nur einen Punkt, nachher werden es ja 6 glaube ich, oder haben die die Regeln geändert

In der letzten Yacht Ausgabe gabs in Sonderheft zum Cup, also schnell noch zum Kiosk laufen und kaufen. Ich finde es recht interessant.

herausragend ist ja bisher Alinghi, das schweizer Boot.

Sollten die den Cup holen, wo findet der nächste Cup statt ?

Prada ist nach einer 3 Niederlagen zurüchgetreten, smit ist Alinghi als erster für die 1/4 Finale qualifiziert

nachdem gestern schlechtes Wetter war, scheinen die nächsten Tage nicht besser zu werden.

Wir sehen die Teams Prada, One World, Victory und Stars & Stripes am Samstag im Hoffungslauf wieder.

glaubst Du auch alles was in der Zeitung steht?
Hat Schröder im Fernsehn nicht was davon erzählt er wolle keine Steuern und Abgaben erhöhen?

Moin Moin,

also die Wahrscheinlichkeit, daß die Schweizer im Genfer See segeln werden ist schon sehr gering, da können wir den Aussagen im Fernsehen schon glauben schenken, zumal der Schweizer Syndikatsboss irgendwo in einem Edel-Club am Mittelmeer Mitglied ist... und der Club richtet aus.

Hallo Skipper,

Briten und Franzosen sind also draußen, haben heute wohl doch Wettfahrten stattgefunden.

LeDefi hatte Pech mit den drehenden Winden und auch mit dem Spi. Tut mir leid Eric, aber besser im Viertelfinale ausscheiden, als überhaupt nicht dabei sein.

Grand Old Denis hat schwach angfangen und sich dann gesteigert, wie er das (fast) immer getan hat. Die Tommies haben jetzt also wieder zeit arüber nachzudenken, warum sie es einfach nicht schaffen. Thomas Lipton hat es einmal passend ausgedrückt: " I can not win".

Macht Euch mal noch keine Gedfanken, wo der Cup 2005/6 ausgetragen wird. Erstmal muss man den Bären (oder den Kiwi) erlegen, bevor das Fell verkauft werden kann.

Alinghi hat mit Russel Coutes zwar einen einheimischen Skipper, aber wer sich an das letzte Mal erinnert, der wird sich daran erinnern, das Luna Rossa im LV-Cupauch fast allen um die Ohren gefahren ist.

Im 'GRande Finale' war es dann aber mit der herrlichkeit vorbei. Mal sehen was die Kiwi's diesmal zu bieten haben. Bisher hört man zu wenig von ihnen und dann auch nicht positives. Vielleicht ist das aber auch gewollt.

Samstag geht es weiter mit den Hoffnungsläufen.
