Hallo racer,
hier ein paar Infos zur Regelfindung für die Klasse F3T
Hello Pylon Friends,
Robert Mekemeijer, chairman of the CIAM F3 Pylon Sub-Committee, led a dedicated group of pylon racers from around the world to finalize the official rules for F3T, International Q40. The committee worked very co-operatively together to take all the best parts of the AMA 422 rules and combine these with aspects of F3D racing. I am very pleased with the outcome of Rob's work and the work of the committee.
For those who race in North America, the event looks, smells, and tastes like Q40. Things that are the same as AMA 422 include:
For the most part, any model design that is approved for 422 today is legal for F3T
Each of the two motors that are legal for AMA 422 at the end of 2013 are legal for F3T
APC Q40 props are allowed in F3T
Fuel is maximum 15% nitro with synthetic oil or a blend of synthetic and castor oils
Venturi diameter is 9mm maximum
The key differences from AMA 422 include:
Allowable engine is not limited to two manufacturers
A motor other than the two motors allowed in AMA 422 may be used but it first must be approved through the F3T committee. A formal approval process is in place
The propeller is not limited to APC, but only carbon filled injection moulded propellers will be approved by the committee
The race course used is the F3D race course
A club hosting a F3T event has the option of using FAI scoring (by time) or North American scoring (by heat points)
The chosen scoring method should be announced in the event flyer
The chairman of the F3T Committee is Barry Lever from the UK. Committee members supporting Barry are the following:
Jim Allen (USA)
Hans Joachim Schaller (GER)
Gilles Desgruelles (FRA)
Randy Smith (CAN)
Tomas Andrlik (CZE)
Rob is now ready to present the final rule proposal to the CIAM in March of 2014. This is pretty much a rubber-stamp activity. I my opinion, the rules are now in place with this latest revision. We should now prepare to hold F3T events around the world. We should race F3T and have fun. We should race with these rules to determine where improvements can be made for the future growth of the event. I have enclosed the rules document in this message.
Rob and the committee are still working on a proposal for a F3T World Cup series where events can be held in many locations around the world with some form of points being earned to determine a world cup series champion.
It is a dream of mine to one day attend a true world championship of F3T Q40 pylon racing where many countries from all over the world enjoy this great event we have in RC pylon racing. I hope one day the race will be as large and successful as the US Nats in Muncie or the Phoenix Q40 Classic or the races in Old Julian and the Sepulveda Basin.
As a member of the F3T committee, I am open to feedback about the rules. However, I would look to clubs to begin offering races so that we have real world feedback on where improvements can be made.
Cheers,
Randy Smith, Canada
