Picares LangHor special version developed for Autonomy F5J in Italy
Hello to all,
At the end of last year I discovered this beautiful balsa glider kit and I decided to develop a dedicated version for our Autonomy F5J category.
I think that it could be a good opportunity to approach the F5J and especially our competition with a beautiful and cheap balsa glider.
In Italy, from 2006, there is a special glider category named Autonomy F5J; it is a true F5 category were the electric motor could be utilized whenever you want/need during flight till to the limit granted by the logger with special Autonomy F5J firmware. The maximum span allowed is 3 meter and are not admitted full composite fiberglass/carbon molded wings. This give a big opportunity for the auto construction of gliders.
Every pilot has got in the “logger” 1200m of altitude and 600 second of motor running. As soon as the first one of this limit is reached, the motor is stopped and no more running is allowed.
The “operative time" of the competition is 3 hours and 30 minutes during that every concurrent could freely fly performing the maximum number of duration flight of minimum 6 minutes and at the end of each keep the bonus landing in a circle of 10 m of diameter.
Who perform more flight … win.
Naturally every flight is recorded and certified by the logger that, at the end of operative time, is checked by the organization.

Returning to Picares Langhor, I’ll show here any photo of the Picares Autonomy F5J version specially developed starting from the kit of Langhor and utilizing quite only the kit materials.
The central part of the wing has been increased to 1 meter (4 ribs more), and the tips are also little bit longer.
Overall span is 2850 mm and surface is 44 dm2
The fuselage in the front part has got the same length of glider version and in the rear is increased of 40 mm
The horizontal tail is bigger and isa a “damped tail elevator” (4,5 dm2) and placed more rear than nominal and fixed by a screw on the support as you could see by the photos.

There are a lot of little changes operated on the structure and described in the topic to adapt the model to the larger span.
I’m very satisfied by Picares modified Autonomy version that allow me to win the first 2019 Autonomy F5J competition last weekend.
